Mississippi Burning

Synopsis

Gene Hackman is a Southern sheriff turned FBI agent, and Willem Dafoe is his by-the-book upstart partner. Like there wasn't enough tension in civil rights era Mississippi! Inspired by the real-life murders of three activists in a small town where the Ku Klux Klan and the law are one and the same, this 1988 film stirred up a heap of controversy - and a heap of Oscar nominations.
